FOSS lives because of the people who use it.

Be they beginners or experienced professionals, everyone can contribute valuable hints and insights to FOSS development. However, most people don't get up one morning and decide to use some particular software. In most cases they need to be convinced, or at least provided with a small trigger. One possible trigger can be a talk at a conference or meeting. A presentation about a technical or social topic, delivered by a real expert can be an inspiring experience - or a dreary and almost agonising one.

In this talk, I will introduce and demonstrate a set of guidelines on how to give a good presentation. From choice of topic to preparations and the final delivery, there are many things that should be considered. I'll give general suggestions as well as some personal tips and tricks you may not have come across yet. The possible audience for this talk ranges from beginners to old hands. I hope to see a lot of you there since - rule no. 1 - the speaker is only as good as his/her audience. ;)

About myself: I've given a number of talks and speeches on all sorts of occasions from Linux events to political and formal ones. I also do lectures at my university mostly on technical stuff and to IT students but also to people from completely different fields. So far my talks as well as my lectures have all been well received and over the years I gathered a large collection of Dos and Don'ts, from my own experiences as well as from seeing other talks, that I would like to share. Additionally, I went to drama school for more than ten years, which gave me a broad and profound acting education that also serves me well when giving talks or lectures.
