State of the art for Debian i18n/l10n
Proposal details:
Abstract: | At Debconf 3, Javier Fernandez Sanguino Pena presented a talk summarizing the status of i18n/l10n in Debian.
In three years, many progress has been done on these topics, several of them being pushed by the emerging Debian Installer and its recognized very wide localization. This talk will try to give a very wide summary of how i18n/l10n works (and sometimes does not work) in Debian. The successes as well as the current challenges and unachieved goals (mostly a general i18n infrastructure which can be compared to other Free Software i18n infrastructures) will be presented and opened for discussion. All main actors of Debian i18n will be invited to the round table with the main goal of finally take the decisions or at least throw the main foundations of a central working i18n infrastructure in the Debian project. Such round table could include: Denis Barbier, Michael Bramer, Otavio Salvador, Konstantinos Margaritis, Jaldhar H. Vyas, Margarita Manterola, Petter Reinholdtsen, Jordi Mallach, someone in charge of i18n in Ubuntu and probably more people. Questions that could be discussed at the round table: -Central i18n infrastructure (aka "Rosetta for Debian") -Reviving the DDTP -Building an i18n community |
